Capoeira-dance fighting

The movements come close, just skimming inches above the surface of a partners back, stomach or face. On a few occasions, the blows make contact, but rarely, and never with intention to afflict pain. This is Capoeira, the dance of fighting. Wikipedia says it originates from Brazil, with conflicting theories regarding it’s creation. The shifting moves are a fusion of martial arts, street fighting, and breakdancing. I struggled to peel my eyes away once I caught a glimpse. They were slippery with sweat, like silver fish pulled from a stream. The strength and exertion needed for this activity was evident in every muscle pulsing with the weight of the play.

ParkerMB - that second-to-last one is AWESOME!! I have wanted to photograph a capoeira group for a long time and these are really fun. I'm motivated to see if there is a group in Minneapolis…
