Three tackling the Triathlon!

I couldn’t have asked for a better day for documenting a triathlon. After crossing over the Wisconsin/Illinois border, the cityscape of Chicago grew was replaced with farmland covered with a thick blanket of fog. A 1/2 mile body of water sat nestled in this mist alongside the Lakeview RecPlex. Hundreds of contestants weaved between supporters gathered to cheer their family and friends.
I was hired to capture Susan, Nancy, and Christine’s joint triathlon. Susan and Christine met during their childhood and have remained close into adulthood, despite living in opposite regions of the country. Susan was introduced to Nancy through Christine, and all three have a close bond, marking this event as a very special collaboration for them.
Bearing witness to this incredible feat was inspiring! The female-only triathlon challenged contestants to race for a cure for cancer. I was really awed by the number of participants, ranging in age, body type, and capability. There was a team of three generations–daughter, mother, and grandmother. Seriously! So cool to see them united in their accomplishment! I loved it.
Thanks to Susan, Nancy, and Christine. You were all great! I had an amazing experience and am honored to have photographed you all! Cheers!

ParkerMB - Wow, HUGE events like this offer almost too much to take pics of. I like your diverse set. Did you feel exhausted watching all the athletes? I shot the Twin Cities marathon last week and got tired just seeing them all run for hours and hours.

M.M.R. - I felt so energized while I was shooting, but then wiped after. I'm pretty sure I had an adrenaline rush vicariously from the athletes around me. It was really a gorgeous day for shooting though…
